The first production Audi built on the Volkswagen Group MEB platform for volume all-electric cars is this model, the Q4 e-tron. This compact-to-mid-sized crossover is pricier of course than other similarly-sized full-battery-powered SUVs from the Wolfsburg conglomerate, but it delivers a much more up-market feel that’ll help ease you into your new electrified phase of motoring ownership.
Using a conventional garage 7kW wallbox, you can recharge the base 52kWh Q4 35 e-tron model with 175 miles of charge in eight and a half hours. Maximum charging capacity is 7.4kW on an AC system – or 100kW using DC current.
The Q4 e-tron has the size of a compact BEV, but the finish, luxury and (to some extent) the driving dynamics of an electric crossover from next class up – that for larger EV models like the Jaguar I-PACE and the Mercedes EQC. In that respect, it’s far more like a BMW iX3 than a Volkswagen ID.4.
Auto Express says
If you’re questioning whether all-electric power is the right choice for a family SUV, then the Audi Q4 e-tron has all the answers.
The Q4 e-tron SUV represents Audi’s first use of the Volkswagen Group’s MEB platform architecture, specifically designed to underpin the company’s all-electric cars. There is a familiar style to the Q4’s exterior look, however, with the usual quality materials in use throughout the cabin.
Buyers have the choice of the traditional SUV styling of the standard Q4 e-tron, or the more svelte coupe lines of the Sportback version. Either way you’re getting a family car with a lot of kerb appeal: the large, blanked-off grille has a modern blockwork design, while the strong panel lines and slim LED headlights work well.
