Where Your EV Leads, Your Home Follows: Zoopla’s New Charging Search

Published 30 July 2025
Imagine house-hunting and discovering your dream home isn’t just perfect for you—it’s perfect for your electric car too. That’s the brilliant reality Zoopla’s latest feature now offers, helping buyers and renters easily find homes based on electric vehicle (EV) charging options. But this innovation goes beyond simply plugging in, it’s transforming the home search for a new, greener generation.
Reinventing House-Hunting for a Sustainable Era
No more trawling through bland listings or guessing whether you’ll ever be able to charge up outside your new front door. With Zoopla’s upgrade, created in partnership with Vauxhall and powered by real-time data from Octopus Electroverse, would-be movers can:
- Instantly see if a property comes with a fitted or pre-wired EV charger, or at the very least, has a driveway ready for installation.
- Check the location of the nearest public charging points, shown right alongside schools and local transport.
- Filter out properties that don’t already meet your “charge at home” needs, focusing your search on homes made for modern living.
Zoopla’s Chief Operating Officer, Rich Hayes, sums it up well:
“We’re proud to be the first property website to offer consumers the ability to find the nearest on-street chargers to a property, and filter properties with home-charging. By improving Zoopla’s search functionality, our aim is that we will empower more confident moving decisions, particularly for current and future EV owners.”
A Timely Upgrade for the Changing Market
This isn’t just a technical tweak, Zoopla’s move is a direct answer to fresh priorities in the property market. Recent research reveals:
“40% of UK drivers consider proximity to EV charging a key factor when choosing their next home. A third (33%) of those surveyed said that a lack of accessible charging would actively discourage them from moving into a particular property—a figure that rises sharply to 84% among current EV owners.”
Yet until now, only around 1.6% of property listings even mentioned EV charging, a missed trick for sellers and agents alike.
Charging Ahead with Added Value
Picture this: you pull up at home, plug in your car overnight, and head off each morning with a ‘full tank’—all for just a few quid, instead of paying through the nose for public charging. For buyers with off-street parking, home charging is both a luxury and an economic win; installing a standard charger costs anywhere from £800 to £1,200, and grant schemes may bring the cost down.
For the estimated 40% of UK households without a driveway, things are improving fast. The public charging network is booming, councils are installing on-street chargers, and initiatives like Vauxhall’s Electric Streets are helping more city dwellers drive electric with confidence.
Adding an EV charging point can also boost your home’s value by up to £5,000, according to the National Association of Property Buyers, with Zoopla noting the growing appeal to buyers and renters alike.
A New Standard Beckons
As the 2035 ban on petrol and diesel sales edges closer, sellers and agents who shout about EV charging options are poised to attract more interest, and perhaps command higher prices. For buyers and renters, Zoopla isn’t just about bedrooms and postcodes any more, it’s your gateway to a greener, more future-proof lifestyle.
