All-New Jeep Compass Unveiled: Bold Design, Electric Ambition, and Off-Road Cred
Published 7th May 2025
Is this the most versatile Jeep Compass ever? With a bold new look, cutting-edge tech, and a leap into electrification, Jeep’s third-generation Compass aims to set a new standard for compact SUVs.
A Major Leap for a Global Best-Seller
On 6 May 2025, Jeep officially pulled the wraps off the third-generation Compass, signalling a major evolution for one of its most important global models. Since debuting in 2006, the Compass has sold over 2.5 million units worldwide and is now positioned as a “key driver for Jeep growth,” especially in Europe’s fiercely competitive C-SUV segment.
Built on Stellantis’s STLA Medium platform-shared with models like the Vauxhall Grandland and Peugeot 3008-the new Compass is designed to stand out with genuine off-road capability in a market crowded with urban-focused crossovers.
“The brief was to make it rugged and bold, but also detoxify it,” said Ralph Gilles, Stellantis Chief Design Officer, referencing the vehicle’s reduced use of chrome and minimalist exterior.
Rugged New Look, Cleaner Lines
The new Compass blends classic Jeep heritage with a modern, chunkier aesthetic. The design was spearheaded by Jeep’s Turin studio, with global input.
Key design highlights:
-
Reimagined seven-slot grille forming a wraparound panel
-
Trapezoidal wheel arches and rugged cladding
-
Scratch-resistant modular Jeep shield and reinforced bumpers
-
Aerodynamic upgrades: active grille shutter, flat underbody, wheel arch ducts (drag coefficient under 0.3)
-
Six nature-inspired exterior colours
Despite being compact for its class, the new Compass is longer than before at 4548mm, giving it a strong road presence.
Premium Interior, Packed With Tech
Step inside, and the Compass feels like a leap forward-aimed squarely at rivals like the Kia Sportage, Hyundai Tucson, and Peugeot 3008.
Standard across all trims:
-
10.0-inch digital instrument cluster
-
16.0-inch central touchscreen
-
Level 2 autonomous driving features
-
Connected services and over-the-air updates
Physical controls haven’t disappeared: a large drive mode selector and essential console buttons remain for tactile convenience.
Optional tech includes:
-
Head-up display
-
Matrix LED headlights
-
Semi-automatic lane change assist
-
Mobile phone as a key
Fabio Catone, Head of Jeep Brand in Enlarged Europe, sums it up: “It’s a Compass that meets market expectations for design, technology and usability-and is ready to play a leading role in our electric future.”
Space and Everyday Practicality
With a longer 2795mm wheelbase (up 159mm), the new Compass offers:
-
55mm more rear legroom
-
550 litres of boot space (+45L)
-
34-litre front storage compartment
-
40/20/40 split-folding rear seats
Perfect for: Family road trips, daily commutes, or weekend adventures with friends and gear.
Off-Road Capability: Still a True Jeep
Unlike many crossovers, Jeep insists the Compass remains the most capable off-roader in its class.
Standard features:
-
Up to 200mm ground clearance
-
470mm wading depth
-
Selec-Terrain drive mode system (all models, including FWD)
-
Hill descent control (AWD)
-
10mm suspension lift (AWD)
Approach/Breakover/Departure Angles:
-
FWD: 20° / 15° / 26°
-
AWD: 27° / 16° / 31°
Standout feat: The AWD EV model can climb a 20% gradient with no front traction, thanks to a powerful rear motor and extreme torque at the rear wheels.
Powertrains: Hybrid, Plug-In, and Pure Electric
For the first time, the Compass offers a full range of electrified powertrains to suit every driver:
