UK Cars Hit By Scrap Metal Thieves

We have seen in recent years a growing amount of metal theft from historic buildings, but now criminal gangs are targeting cars.  As we see an increase of Catalytic converters being stolen from vehicles.

What Is The Scrap Metal Dealers Act?

In 2013 the government brought in new legislation meaning that scrap metal yards need to be licensed and anyone taking scrap metal to a yard needs to identified and logged, with no more cash purchases.  The purpose of the act was to make it harder to dispose of stolen metal, and therefore reduce overall metal theft.

The Volkswagen beetle has been the vehicle of choice to use as a chassis. The first dune buggy was built in 1964 by Bruce Meyers.  Globally around 250,000 individual vehicles were built as one off’s from the beetle after Bruce’s creation came out.
