Their report, based on Department of Transport figures from 2012 states that there is a 3% increase in road crashes during the two weeks immediately after the autumn change. This could indicate that sleepiness and lack of concentration could play a major part in accidents in the latter half of the year.

Gov.uk figures for the period January to March 2016 stated that there was a 13% increase in fatal road accidents but these could be attributed to various causes. It has to be stated that, according to the government’s own data, road fatalities have fallen decade on decade.

Various studies have also shown that health can be affected by switching to daylight saving time and a 2008 Swedish study showed that the risk of having a heart attack increases following the springtime clock change.
